Bucket Calf Schedule
Bucket Calf Weigh-In: Tuesday, August 25
12-1 pm
Bucket Calf Show: Thursday, August 27
30 minutes after the Market Beef Show (approx. 5 pm)
Rules
- Each participant must have his/her own individual weaned calf.
- Class divisions will be determined after weighing in at the fair. Oldest exhibitors show first which gives the opportunity to the younger ones to watch a class before showing.
- Exhibitors ages 5-9 are eligible to show a bucket calf. Exhibitors must be 5 by the day of weigh-in at the fair.
- Proper show attire is required: dark jeans, collared western style shirt (does not have to be white), and close-toed shoes.
- Calves will be shown and judged under beef fitting and showmanship guidelines.
- Steers and heifers of any breed are allowed. Bulls can be shown if consent is given by the bucket calf director. No horns over 1 inch.
- Calves must be born after January 1st and before April 30th of the current year.
- Exhibitors must own the calf by the last tagging date.
- Calves must be weighed and tagged on the announced date at the fairgrounds unless other accommodation is made with the bucket calf director.
- Exhibitors may tag up to three calves in their name.
- Judging will focus on the exhibitor’s ability to show and fit, as well as the overall care given to the calf.
- Each exhibitor is responsible for seeing that their calves are fed and watered and pens are kept clean daily. Exhibitors who do not take care of their bucket calf during the fair will be asked to take the bucket calf home and forfeit their opportunity to show and premium.
- Awards will be given for the best display and the best rate of gain announced following the show.
- All calves must meet standard health requirements as determined by the director. Any sick or unhealthy animal will not be displayed and must be removed from the fairgrounds immediately.
